The Appalachian Trail in New York
New York's 88 miles of Appalachian Trail take the footpath surprisingly close to
New York City (which can be viewed about 40 miles away from at least two viewpoints) without
loosing the Trail's wilderness feel. The Trail passes through Hudson-Bear Mountain State Park and
reaches a low point of 176 feet above sea level at a point between the Bear Mountain Zoo (which the Trail
passes through) and the bridge over the Hudson River. The trail enters Connecticut on Shaghticoke Mountain.
